Authentication providers may provide Ask a Jury with information such as your email address and account identifier. Other users are shown your chosen username and preset avatar, not your email address.
We email you about verdicts and cases you posted or sat on — including when a seat or case closes — and we may email when a public case still needs jurors. The juror-needed email does not go to the person who posted the case. We do not send marketing. You can turn case emails off in Account settings. Password-reset and confirmation emails still send.
We process situations, jury votes, written takes, moderation events, XP activity, and basic service logs in order to operate, improve, and protect the platform.
We may use a short, anonymous snippet of a public case — such as the question and a brief excerpt of what happened — in social media content from Ask a Jury and from people we collaborate with, to bring traffic to the website. We do not include email addresses or other identifying details. If you delete a case, or remove a completed case from the public archive, we will not use it in new posts.
Completed cases appear on the home page as past verdicts. The person who posted a case can remove it from that public list at any time, or delete the case entirely. Removing it from the archive leaves the record available to people who participated. Deleting it removes the story, votes, and written takes for everyone.
If you use Ask a Jury through ChatGPT, ChatGPT may call our public MCP endpoint to explain how the service works or to prepare a temporary draft case. Draft preparation stores a short-lived token and the draft text you approved in ChatGPT on our servers until the link expires or you import it. ChatGPT does not submit a live case, vote, claim a jury seat, or receive a verdict through that integration. To post a case, you must open the askajury.com link, sign in if needed, review the draft, and submit it yourself on the website.
Before it posts, submitted content is checked against a fixed list of rules that we maintain ourselves, looking for things like phone numbers, addresses, threats, and slurs. That check runs on our servers and does not send your text to a third party. Separately, an AI model may be used to suggest answer choices for a case and to summarize juror reasoning after a verdict. The human jury — not AI — determines the vote result.
We may retain moderation events, strikes, and related technical information when reasonably necessary to prevent abuse and enforce platform rules.
Do not submit private identifying information about yourself or other people that is not necessary to explain the situation.
